Beatitude means the Experience of Beatdom. Jack Kerouac Used what was originally a Catholic word into a "Beat word".
In 1958 writer Jack Kerouac coined the term "The Beat Generation" because he felt its members were seeking beatitude. Jack Kerouac later insisted that "Beat" was derived from beatification, to be supremely happy. However, it is thought that this definition was a defense of the beat way of life, which was frowned upon and offended many American sensibilities.
He saw them as blessed, he saw saints among them, and he spent time searching for "IT"--it is the theme of On the Road--He saw the Beat movement as a religious movement of his own making.
Beatitude is a word used by Catholics though Kerouac used this word to mean Blessed as Beat, therefor Beatitude is now used as the experience of Beatdom.
